219 Malcolm was first elected 13 December 1975. This followed a double dissolution of the Federal Parliament. Senators' terms were taken to have begun on 1 July 1975. From 1993 until his retirement he was a joint Father of the Senate with Brian Harradine. He was a Labor Senator from 1975 to 1996 and Senator for the 'Queensland First' Party from 1996 to 1999.
