* After migraton to Australia, he famillariesed himself with the operations of Appleton & Co in Hobart.

* David then left for Sydney and in 4 months was the head of Appleton's busiest Drapery, located in Pitt Street, Sydney.

* When Appleton arrived in Sydney, Appleton alleged that Jones had changed the store name from Appleton & Co. to Appleton & Jones and that Jones had assualted him.

* On 21 May 1838, the pair terminated their partnership, therefore ending the business. However, three days later on 24 May 1838, David Jones opened his store, David Jones & Co.

* Today, David Jones & Co. is now known simply as David Jones which is an upmarket Department store with multiple locations throughout Australia.
